The EU AI Act is a comprehensive legal framework that regulates AI systems on a risk-based approach and aims to promote their safe and responsible development and use in the EU. As part of its implementation, the EU Commission has asked researchers to write three studies on “the current state of the art of technical solutions for marking and detecting AI-generated content across different modalities, namely text, audio and image/video content” (source: website of the European Commission)
As part of this effort, ELSA Coordinator Mario Fritz conducted a study on “Technical solutions for marking and detecting AI-generated image and video content in the context of Article 50(2) AI Act”. In his work, Professor Fritz analyses the current technical solutions for marking and detecting visual content. He evaluates their practicality, resilience against manipulation, and transparency for users.
